A used display can provide a large performance gain for less money, but inspection must cover more than a bright demo clip. Exterior and structural inspection

Turn the display off and use angled light. Look for cracks, scratches, coating damage, pressure marks, bends, gaps, loose trim, dents, missing screws, liquid residue, insect debris, corrosion, and signs of an earlier opening. Inspect the back, vents, ports, power inlet, buttons, control stick, stand, feet, and mount points.

Reject a cracked panel, unstable stand, exposed conductor, scorched connector, damaged power cord, swelling, unusual odor, or unexplained heat. Do not energize equipment that appears electrically or structurally unsafe.

Is a solid-color test enough?

No. Add text, motion, dark scenes, real sources, sound, controls, ports, sleep, and a warm-up period.
